Gowalla: Gowalla is Going to Facebook

gowalla:

Three years ago Gowalla’s journey began when I took a photograph of Lake Tahoe on my iPhone. I had just finished a phone call with my dad, and I wanted nothing more than to share that photo and place with him. Not just in a text message or status update sort of way, but with a bit of weight…

Steve Jobs - My Thoughts

“STEVE JOBS WAS ON A REAL MARATHON. CAN’T REALLY BE SAD WHEN A PERSON DIES IF THEY LIVED A LIFE THAT WILL BE REMEMBERED FOR AGES.” - Retweeted by Rick Ross (@rickyrozay)

Steve Jobs achieved a lot in his short time here, he literally changed the world. Beyond the technological and product standpoint, he changed society and it’s perception of ‘smart people’, ‘nerds’, ‘geeks’, etc.

Steve Jobs created the ‘nerdy rockstar’. I believe, in contrast to all his other inventions, this notion changed the course of silicon valley forever. In my opinion, a humble opinion at that, before Steve Jobs the aspiration of “nerding out” was not cool, regardless of the money involved. (see: Bill Gates)

What Steve Jobs did was create a notion that yes, you can be smart and still have people of all walks of life idolize you. Yes, you can completely nerd out on technology and still be the man. Yes, you don’t have to be an amazingly good looking ripped guy to be powerful.

I went into tech much later in the Steve Jobs era, and after i wholeheartedly abandoned my aspirations to go to law school - i had no idea what i was getting into, but i did know this, this is Steve Jobs’ territory - and i need to be here. He made it okay for me and my wife to completely immerse our home with apple products (6 apple products, and counting), for me to aspire to someone known for his intellect and vision instead of me wanting to be some idiot athlete getting DUI’s…

…but most of all, he made it okay for me to dream big, think different, and never ever give up.

Thank you, Steve.
